The Stockyard Kings are a four-piece Sioux City roots rock band. A constantly evolving group of seasoned musicians who can best be described as diverse, dynamic, funky, and fun, The Stockyard Kings deliver a soulful palette of Americana, Chicago blues, funk, reggae and rock in their original music.
Drawing inspiration from Sioux City and beyond, singer and songwriter Byron Kuehl fronts the band, engaging audiences with real life stories, images, and characters over a driving soundscape that resonates with widespread appeal. Chicago native Billy Rider holds down the drumbeat while blowing gritty blues harp in the style of Lee Oskar and Sleepy Horton. Veteran Sam Irish brings his musical expertise and fearless improvisation on bass while son Sam Jr. lends tasty guitar chops and soaring leads to the mix.
Inspired by artists such as The Grateful Dead, Los Lobos, Tower of Power, Bill Withers, and Bob Marley, the Stockyard Kings are one of Sioux City’s many hard-working bands. After headlining the second stage for the 2015 Ragbrai festival in Sioux City, the Stockyard Kings are thrilled to open the Main Stage of Saturday in The Park 2016.
